ROGER MAIS

Roger Mais was born into a middle class family in 1905 in Jamaica.
he become a writer for the weekly newspaper public 
opinion which was associated with the people’s 
nationalist movement in Jamaica. he wrote an anti British column  
'now we know' and suffered imprisonment on charges of section it 
wasn't reason that is work of social protest was convinced.

Black Out (Summary)

The Story Set On A West Indian Island City During The Second 
World War. And Describe An Encounter Between A Black West 
Indian Man And An American Girl It Was The Era Of Segregation 
With Separate Schools Buses Restaurants For Blacks And Whites.
After The Second World War, The Atmosphere Of Tension 
Was The Only Discrimination Between Blacks And Whites 
That Has Arisen In The Society At This Time. 
The Street Light Being Off And An American Girl Waiting For 
Their Bus . She Is Confident And Feels That If There Is Trouble 
One Good Scream Can Being A Number Of People To Her Rescue.
Suddenly A Black Shadow Follow Her When It Grows 
He Was A Black Young Man. He Asking For A Match 
Box Or Lighter As He Observed Her Smoking. As She 
Doesn't Have A Matchbox She Lets Him Use Her 
Cigarette To Light His.
Girl's Face Filled With Anxiety Because He Had A High 
Discrimination Of Blacks In Society At The Time.
The Girl Does Not Put That Cigarette On Her Lips Again And 
Throws The Whole Cigarette, After that The Black Man 
Tells Her That It Is Not America Where Black Whites Are 
Different So You Do Not Need To Be Afraid Or Nervous
The Girl's Bus Arrives And They Sit In It And Leave, But 
The Girl Is Impressed By The Black Man Seeing All This.
This Story Tells Us That At That Time There Was A Lot Of 
Discrimination Against Black People In America And 
There Was A Lot Of Discrimination In Society On The 
Basis Of Caste, Gender Class, Which Affected People's Lives Very Much
